What Happened to August?

Wow. Having a blog that other people may or may not be reading gives new meaning to "time flies". Like I need more "mommy guilt" in my life, now I feel guilty for not blogging about my kids! Sheesh! Anywho...I'm first going to try to recap August. This will take more than one session I'm sure, so you'll have to check back for more of August. Hopefully I'll be caught up before September is over!

August 7, 2008

Took kids for 5 year and 6 month checkups. Here are the stats:

Eric weighed in at 33.6 pounds (5th percentile, per usual)and 42 inches (25th percentile). There are now more rides he can go on at those theme parks. He talked non-stop to the Dr. who graciously answered and "wow-ed" and "oh-ed" in all the right places. It's funny how he will talk the ears off some people, and others, who seem perfectly nice and interested in him he won't give the time of day. Go figure. Maybe kids have a sixth sense about some people.

Elyse weighed in at 13.14 pounds (10th percentile) and 26 inches (50th percentile). She did really well, only screamed for a short time after the shots and didn't pee all over the scale this time. Good girl.

August 9 - August 24

Got the heck out of dodge (and the heat) and headed to the midwest to see family and some friends. These trips always go so fast. There are so many people we didn't get to see and the ones we did, the time seemed way too short.

Eric and I in the "rocket" I used to play on as a kid. That thing would probably be condemned if anyone ever inspected it. It shakes like it's taking off!

We're expecting big things out of this little piano player (with Grandma N.)

A couple of firsts on the trip for Elyse. First airplane ride:

First "sink bath":

This is just a smattering of the fun we had visiting. (Of course, I have many more photos). Elyse did amazing for her first time away from home. We stayed with 5 different wonderful hosts, but back and forth a bit so it really totalled eight different changes in location. My kids are champs! Elyse even cut her first two teeth in the middle of our trip. What a rock star.

Eric just had a blast visiting old friends and family. He had a "sleepover" with his old buddies Dylan and Kevin. I use that term loosely as he gave up after being startled awake by one of his buddies. Oh well. He had lots of fun before that and the next day! He also got to canoe, play frisbee golf, take a little train ride, go fishing with Grandpa and lots of other fun activities. When asked what his favorite part of the trip was, he gave it a few thoughtful moments and then said "all of it!"

This photo was near the end of our trip. We had a rental car and didn't have a mirror to see our rear facing sweetie-pie. Eric graciously sat in the middle so he could keep an eye on his baby sister for me and be my "mirror". I snapped this photo without taking my eyes off the road. (A little blurry, but pretty centered considering I held up the camera and snapped it!) Oh, at this point on our trip, Ross had already returned home to work, which is why he wasn't along for the ride.

Whew. That picture pretty much sums up how I feel after writing/uploading this post and how we felt after our trip! I need to take a break and finish August in the next post. Bye for now!
