First Soccer Game

Eric wanted to sign up for soccer this year. He's never played and in fact, I'm not sure if he's ever seen an actual game being played. (OK, so we're not HUGE soccer fans.) Since we were moving last summer/fall and everything was new, he didn't play last year. He just turned five on July 29 and the age group cut off was August 1 so I tried to sign him up with the younger set. Well, that didn't get by anyone (darn birth certificate). So, I had to sign him up with boys that are probably a little older, bigger and have played soccer before. There were two practices before the first game and they really only played a "game" for part of one practice! Nothing like jumping right in.

This is Eric watching during the first quarter, not really having a clue what is going on! Does he look a little nervous?

This is Eric looking over at us during the game. Peace, baby!

Score one for Mommy's photography. This is a picture of the one time Eric actually kicked the ball during the game. No, that's not him in the blue. He'd be the one behind the kid in the blue. See the little bit of green shirt? (Go ahead and click on the picture so you can see it bigger...then you'll see the green. I'll wait.) Yup. That's him. Kickin' the ball. Yeah, Eric!

All in all, it was a success. He said he had fun and is willing to play again. That's all we can ask for.

They were supposed to have a game on Tuesday. Rained out. Practice was supposed to be on Wednesday. Rained out. They were supposed to have a game on Saturday. Any guesses? It actually wasn't raining right away in the morning, but the threat of the impending tropical storm Ike caused all games after 11:00 a.m. to be canceled. Good thing soccer season doesn't end until November! (Too bad you can't hear the sarcasm in my typing!) Go team!
