Seems we have a new pet, of sorts. There is a male cardinal who has been head-butting our window for awhile. First it was a bathroom window on the west side of the house. Then, I saw him once or twice bumping into a window on the north side of the house. Lately, he has been more than persistent on the east side of the house. Sheesh. He starts early in the morning too. He slams into the window 4 or 5 times, then goes off and does whatever birdie things he does for a few minutes and then he's back. It's really annoying at 6:00 in the morning.
I have really wanted to say "that dumb bird" or "that stupid bird". Not really choice things to say around young children. I told Eric that since he shows up so much, we should really name him. He thought that was a great idea and immediately wanted to call him "William". Well, I was all over that because we could shorten that to "Silly Willie". Silly sounds much better than "dumb" or "stupid". Now, whenever we hear that ubiquitious rapping on the window we say "hi Willie" or "there's Willie" or "that silly Willie". Eric even said "he thinks we're his friends". I love that child's view!
Anyway, not really knowing a lick about the habits of birds, we think he has a nest in a nearby tree and is defending his territory against the "rival" he sees as his reflection in the window. I just hope he doesn't end up flying into the house! He's so agressive. And possibly brain impaired.
I hope this is my first and last post about a bird.
