Moon Pie Adventures

One of the books Eric checked out on our last trip to the library (on his very own library card - he's so proud) was Jimmy Zangwow's Out of This World Moon Pie Adventure. It's a fun story about a boy who wants a Moon Pie and milk, but his mother claims it will ruin his dinner. He wishes he could go to the moon and get a Moon Pie himself in his junk jumbliee jalopy. And so the story goes.

After reading the story one night before bed, Eric stated that he wanted to go to the moon and get some Moon Pies (he loves his sweets!) I made some flippant comment about him going there in his dreams. He's almost 5 and generally knows the difference between fantasy and reality and can pretend with the best of them. Well, the next morning he came downstairs with tears in his eyes. He was upset because he didn't get any moon pies during the night. Ouch. We had a little chat.

We read the story again last night before bed. Nothing was said about going to the moon for Moon Pies.

Side note to this whole story: Eric has been "into" the moon for a while now. He likes to find it in the sky and he has a "Moon in My Room" which we set to look like the moon outside each night. If we can't see the moon, we guess what it must look like that particular night.

Back to last night. It was cloudy when Eric went to bed. Later, I noticed a brilliant and what looked like full, moon in the sky. I commented to Ross that Eric missed a good moon.

Something woke me up at 1:30 in the morning. Eric was standing by our bed and said "I saw the moon outside my window. I want to go get some Moon Pies". Wow! The boy is really intrigued by Moon Pies. Ross walked him back upstairs and I guess explained to him that the only way you could get to the moon was in a rocket ship. At least he wasn't in tears this morning.

We told him we would buy some Moon Pies at the store. I don't know if I've ever seen them in the store, but then again, I've never looked. If we can't find them, there is always www.moonpie.com

Tonight, Eric said he wanted to take a rocket ship to the moon...
